Course Title: Writing Your VPP Annual Self-Evaluation

Course Type: Workshops

Objective: This workshop focuses on the annual Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) self-evaluation, specifically how to prepare for and accurately write the narrative section of the evaluation. This workshop helps you retrieve the annual self-evaluation template, decide who should be responsible for writing each section, and prepare a written evaluation of each sub-element. Workshop activities include an exercise in evaluating responsible persons, writing narrative language to support a sub-element, and setting recommendations for improvement, all of which are required elements of an effective annual VPP self-evaluation. This workshop concludes with ideas for using the self-evaluation results to improve your safety management system (SMS).

Pre-Requisites: This is an introductory level workshop. This workshop is beneficial to personnel wanting to learn more about writing the annual VPP self-evaluation. Personnel gaining the most benefit from this workshop may include: safety and health (S&H) professionals, SMS points of contact, personnel leading the effort to conduct the annual VPP self-evaluation, and personnel tasked with writing the narrative part of the annual VPP self-evaluation.

Presenter:

Alyssa Gormish, DoD Safety Management Center of Excellence (SMCX), Safety & Environmental Professional

Ms. Gormish has been with the SMCX since 2012, primarily supporting the Army and providing guidance regarding S&H compliance and SMS implementation and sustainment. Ms. Gormish regularly supports sites during their annual VPP self-evaluations. She also has experience conducting environmental, energy, and resource management projects for CTC clients.

Lori Schroth, CSP, CIT, DoD SMCX, Senior Safety & Environmental Professional

Lori has worked with the SMCX for more than 10 years, primarily working with the Air Force and providing guidance regarding S&H compliance and SMS implementation and sustainment. She also has safety experience in the manufacturing industry, is an active volunteer with the ASSP, and has had several technical articles published. Lori frequently provides support related to annual VPP self-evaluation reviews for worksites.
